Devon and John’s fall modern romantic wedding at Seattle’s Sodo Park was featured in Seattle Bride Ideas Issue 2019
John and Devon met pre-Tinder, the old fashioned way: at a (no-longer in business) bar in Seattle. Fast forward four years and three nieces and nephews later, John and Devon tied the knot in Sodo. Originally wanting an outdoor wedding (but distrustful of Seattle’s weather), they brought the outside in, to Sodo Park’s rustic venue in Seattle, Washington.
Our planning process began with the couple a little over a year before the wedding date. With our first meeting at Ballard Coffee Works near their home. We hit it off right from the start! Devon & John knew what they wanted from the get go and made the process so fun and easy.
Speaking of fun, that element was essential Devon and John! They wanted to have a lot of fun on their wedding day as well as good food. From the delicious appetizers served during the cocktail hour, a family style dinner, to the cheese burger sliders and tater tots served for the late night snack – this wedding rocked the food choices! The fun was only escalated on the dance floor. Devon and John and their guests danced the night away to some of our favorite hip hop tunes from the early 2000’s and more!
As a stylist, Devon had her color scheme and vision complete around day three of their engagement. Elegance met natural greenery (and lots of it!) Devon choose a palette of deep reds, mauves and blush tones with gold accents. The men wore navy blue suits and the bridesmaids wore mixed matched dresses in the color palette. For the bouquets and arrangements Erica used dahlias, garden roses, hellebore and ranunculus. To add some modern twists to the design we implemented terrariums and geo candle holders.
We also go to work with some of our favorite vendors including Erika from Pastel Cakes Bakery who created a beautiful cutting cake with gold accents and Anna Peters photography who captured the most stunning photos of their day.
The wedding day started with Devon and her bridesmaids getting ready at The Sheraton Hotel in Downtown Seattle with Salon Maison providing hair and makeup services for the ladies. John and his groomsmen got ready at their place in Ballard and we met up at Seward Park for their first look and wedding party photos. The wedding day couldn’t have been more beautiful with the sun out and a lovely 70 degrees. A perfect late September day! From there we went to the venue, Sodo Park, for family photos and downtime before the ceremony.
Devon & John’s ceremony was lovely and simple. Devon requested a garden esc arch for their ceremony. Which we created with smilax vines and garden roses in deep reds, blush, mauve and cream tones. The ceremony Isle and entryway was adorn with candles and greenery vines. As John and Devon stood up in front of friends and family. John’s mom read a Celtic poem during the ceremony, especially meaningful as both their families hail from the Scots-Irish area in Philadelphia, PA. The ceremony was followed by a few more family photos and cocktail hour.
John and Devon were adamant on having dinner served family style so that you could stay seated at your table and eat whatever you want from the platters brought to the table. Dinner flowed right into toasts which brought laughter and a few heartfelt moments.
Just a few days later, John and Devon headed to Cancun for their honeymoon!
